Lewisham

Catford Broadway relaunch weekend

After a year-long refurbishment, Catford Broadway is back to debut it’s new and improved pedestrian friendly layout. In celebration of the relaunch weekend, Catford Market will be extended for two days to include specialist traders and a wealth of entertainment and live music. Enjoy an authentic European market selling food and crafts and diverse street food, including Croatian, Arabic and Mediterranean.​ Runs from 9am to 5.30pm today, Friday,  with official opening on Saturday from 12 noon.

NOW Live Events at Deptford Lounge, Anxiety Arts Festival

Deptford Lounge hosts the closing events of the week long NOW Arts Festival on Saturday June 28 with NOW:WORDS, which focuses on how music can bring us back to our senses and put us in the present moment. An entire day of free, interactive events including a poetry workshop and pop-up stall, a meditation flash mob, a spoken word performance featuring Simon Mole, and a playful performance art piece with British artist Peader Kirk. From 10.30am to 5.00pm.

Introduction to Wine Tasting at Bedales of Spitalfields

Bedales Spitalfields presents a beginner’s wine tasting class, where participants can explore a variety of red and white wines in the wine library on July 1. One of Bedales internationally decorated wine experts will discuss clarity, palate, descriptive wine words and what wine techniques mean at this intimate event. Includes hors d’oeuvres. From 7:00pm – 8:30pm at Bedales Wines on 12 Market Street, Spitalfields. £35 entry.

World City Music Village Festival in Limehouse

Underground Limehouse venue Jamboree partners with World City Music Village on  July 2 to showcase Balkan Storytellers ‘A Spell In Time’ and Live Music from Paprika. Paprika, a six-piece band with Eastern-European roots, will play traditional Balkan music, combining folk ballads with Bulgarian storytelling, and ritual songs. Doors 7pm to 11pm. Free entry.

Hackney

Fiesta in the Fields

London Fields Brewery introduces Fiesta Fields, a one-day carnival featuring live World Cup matches, South American street food, Brazilian-inspired cocktails, and live music and dancing on Saturday. Highlights will include face painting, flags & blow football for the kids, Capoeira & Samba, street performers, and cooking demonstrations. £4 Entry: Get tickets here. Yoga for the mind with City and Hackney Mind

City and Hackney Mind present Yoga for the Mind on 1st July. The session blends yoga postures, breathing techniques and mindfulness to teach participants how to regulate mood and emotions. Centenary at Crystal Palace

To mark the Centenary of the First World War, Barrie McKay from Crystal Palace Museum will give an illustrated talk on the Palace’s importance during the 1914-18 World War on Friday. The production will cover Crystal Palace’s connections with the Crimean and Boar Wars and even the Second World War. Q&A session included. Croydon Music Festival Lunchtime Concert

The Croydon Performing Arts Festival will showcase diverse local talent from all over the area on July 1 at this matinee show. With music, dance, speech and drama performed by people of all ages and abilities. Part of the ongoing festival, with several hundred entries and over 3,000 performers.
