Hidden under the railway tracks along the cobbled streets just off Kingsland Road, Breddos Tacos have set up camp at the Trip Kitchen.

The street food favourites, who are regularly seen at Street Feast and Hawker House, will be serving their delicious Mexican cuisine until October 2014 in the urban Haggerston space.  ELL went down to see what all the fuss was about…

We were cheerfully greeted at the door and taken to our seats under the curved ceilings, which felt almost cave-like. The space itself has a certain charm to it, with small trinkets and glistening neon light dotted around the bricked walls. Also, if you are lucky enough to catch the London sunshine, their canal-side terrace is an idyllic place to enjoy it.

The menu is small, but intricate and diverse, with an American twist on traditional Mexican dishes. With a little help from the friendly waitress, we got ourselves stuck in and hungrily ordered a bit of everything from the menu.

The plates came out fairly quickly, as and when they were ready, each one more delicious than the last.

We began with the slow roasted chipotle beef rib tacos, which were perfectly tender and dangerously moreish. The dishes were small, so I would recommend ordering a couple of these if you are in a bigger group. To partner with the beef, we sampled the jalapeño & oregano glazed chicken wings, which were sticky but sweet. However my firm favourites were the fish tacos, drizzled in lime and delightfully crispy.

The sides looked too tempting to avoid so we went for the buttermilk fried chicken, which was surprisingly light. We also tried the charred spring onions with quesco fresc. I would highly recommend these to any vegetarians, as they tasted so fresh and full of flavour.

The menu itself was faultless and I can see why these guys have been so successful with street foodies around London. There is also an excellent cocktail list and a serving of American style brunch on the weekend.
