An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman died after falling from a sixth floor balcony at Knights Tower in Deptford.

The teenagers, both of whom have not yet been named, were attending a party. A resident from a nearby building told the BBC he noticed the pair on the balcony when he was shutting the blinds.

He said: “We saw a couple on their balcony frolicking.” Less than 10 minutes later he heard a loud noise. His partner said: “We thought someone had been shot.”

Witnesses were quoted as saying the couple who had met at the part were ‘kissing and cuddling” on the balcony.  Samson Oguntayo, an events manager who lives in the adjacent Cornmill House told The Telegraph that the couple were doing ‘some dangerous stuff.’ He added: ”The guy was lifting the girl and putting her on the banister, he kept on doing it.”

Another witness saw the two stumbling before falling over the banister.

Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Millichap said: “We believe this was a tragic accident involving two young people who were students attending a local college.

“We cannot release detailed information at the moment because we are still informing their families.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of these young people.”

The teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight. The police are not treating the deaths as suspicious as investigations continue.
