Murder suspect arrested after body found in car boot

Police are investigating the murder of a young man, after officers found a body whilst searching a car in Lewisham this morning.

Detectives believe the man was murdered at an address in Thornton Heath, Croydon.

A man thought to be in his 50s was arrested after the body was discovered in his vehicle on Evelyn Street, Lewisham.

Police were called to the site shortly before 3:00am following a report that a man was attempting to dispose a body in the Thames at Deptford Wharf.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by the London Ambulance Service. He appeared to have died from head injuries. A post-mortem has not yet taken place.

A murder investigation has been launched and is to be headed by Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway of the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

A police spokesperson said: “A woman was arrested at an address in Thornton Heath on the morning of November 21 in connection with the incident. Nobody else is sought at this time.”
