A 17-year-old girl, charged with the murder of Jeremie Malenge, also 17, who was fatally stabbed on Homerton High Street last week, will appear in court today.

Malenge was discovered with stab wounds on Ponsford Street on the night of January 6. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination at Poplar Mortuary confirmed that the cause of death was stab wounds to the chest.

The female suspect, who cannot be identified, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident. She was charged yesterday and will appear in Stratford Magistrates Court today [Monday].

Reports have since emerged that, on the same night, prior to his stabbing, Malenge was questioned by police as he matched descriptions of armed youths reported in the area.

The teenager was not arrested, but the Independent Police Complaints Commission is now investigating the contact made between police and the victim prior to the fatal incident.

A police spokesperson said: “We cannot yet confirm whether the suspected girl had any relation to the victim. Our enquiries are continuing.”

Police are urging anyone with information to call them on 020 8345 3865 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
