Lewisham Police have arrested two people in connection with knife crimes over the holiday weekend.

The first stabbing took place late on Sunday night on Lewisham’s Murillo Road. The victim, a 16 year-old boy, was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition. A 17 year-old male was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said the stabbing is believed to be gang-related.

Early Monday morning, a woman was arrested following a “domestic stabbing”. No further information has been released regarding the incident.

Later on Monday, Police were dispatched to Lewisham Way after a man was seen walking the streets with a large carving knife in hand. The man was detained under the Mental Health Act.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard would neither confirm nor deny that knife crimes tend to surge over public holiday weekends.
