Imagine having the most important meal of the day in a café where you get to lay in a comfy bed, instead of just sitting in a chair. IKEA has opened a pop-up store with eight beds, where they will be serving food and giving sleeping tips during the next three days. Eastlondonlines was invited for a sneak peek.

The store is located in Leonard Street, Shoreditch and will be open until Wednesday.

Upon arrival you get to choose your favourite type of pillow, so you’re as comfortable as possible. If you’re as lucky as us and are the first to arrive for the day, you even get to choose your bed. We chose a traditional Scandinavian bed with a pop art duvet cover. IKEA told us that we actually chose the best and most expensive bed in the whole café.

We also happened to choose the only bed that had to be changed, and IKEA ensured us they do so for every new customer. So you don’t have to nap and eat in anyone else’s bed.

As we were the first to arrive, we inadvertently stumbled upon their press shoot and became part of the video for a split second. After the short acting stint, which involved us pretending to sleep, our delicious breakfast arrived, and we had Gravadlax and Muesli with freshly squeezed orange juice. A great way to start the day!

Journalist Anna Mellin, 26, describes the experience: “The best Monday I have had in a long time, you come out feeling very zen!”

Sadly the famous IKEA meatballs don’t feature on the menu, but there are staples such as smoked salmon and every dish has a Swedish twist.

If you prefer having breakfast in your own bed, you can head over to the pop-up store after lunch for a little nap with tea and biscuits.
