There are plenty of ways to celebrate the beginning of May. If you haven’t yet made plans for the bank holiday weekend, here’s Eastlondonlines’ roundup of some of the most exciting festivals and market events happening.


OPEN SOURCE
Make your way to Dalston this weekend for the OPEN SOURCE contemporary arts festival, which will present films, live performances and installations, including 24 works receiving their premiere at the festival. Entry is free.

Hackney Drinks Market
The first Hackney Drinks Market takes place on May 2, with around 30 stalls featuring a rolling roster of distillers, brewers and soft drink producers from around London. Hot food and bar snacks will also be available.

StreetFest 2015
StreetFest is back for its eighth year with a brand new venue on Wapping’s riverbank. Head to Tobacco Dock to experience an array of artists showcasing their skills in different street disciplines.

London Coffee Festival
Celebrate London’s bustling and vibrant coffee scene with a trip to the London Coffee Festival, and enjoy artisan coffee and gourmet food stalls, tastings, demonstrations from world-class baristas, live entertainment and music in uniquely-themed zones.

When: Industry days 10am-5pm, April 30-May 1. Public sessions, 5-10pm, May 1 and 10am-7pm, May 2-May 3

Deptford Heritage Festival
This weekend, Deptford High Street and surrounding historical buildings and areas will transform into a wonderful international festival celebrating the area’s heritage and role in world history. There will be plenty of activities for people of all ages.

New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival
Enjoy a weekend of fun without spending a single penny. The 2015 New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival offers free screenings of films including a bicycle-powered screening of The Wizard of Oz on Saturday May 2.

Croydon Give and Take Event
This Saturday, Green Croydon in association with the Town Team will hold a give-and-take event at Surrey Street Market, where local people will be encouraged to donate unwanted small-to-medium items that will then be available for anyone to take for free.

World Food Market
Croydon's World Food Market, at Platform by East Croydon station, offers lunch on a deck chair and the opportunity to soak up the neighbourhood atmosphere while enjoying the sights and smells of freshly prepared food.
