Cyclists campaigners and enthusiasts from all over London and the world will be gathering in the borough today for the fourth Hackney Cycling Conference.

“We want to be the best place in the UK for cycling,’’ said a spokesman for the Conference, which takes place at Hackney Picture House. This year’s topic will focus on the economics of cycling in megacities

The spokesman said the event will be attended by more than 200 cycling enthusiasts, campaigners, transport planners and politicians from London and around the world to help tackle the big questions about encouraging cycling in London

Speakers will include Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists and Rodrigo Guerrero Maldonado from the Mexican branch of international transport consultancy Steer Davies Gleave, who are sponsors of the conference.

In association with the conference, Hackney Cycling Campaign, which lobbies on behalf of cyclists in the borough, which has one of the highest levels of bike ownership in London, is holding a free event at Hackney City Farm tomorrow, featuring talks and discussions on the future of cycling in London.
