Police make arrest after Hackney street stabbing in broad daylight leaves man, 21, fighting for his life

A 21-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in broad daylight on a busy main road in Hackney.

The incident occurred on Amhurst Road, which police closed off in both directions between Mare Street and Pembury Circus.

Officers and ambulance crew attended the scene after reports of a seriously injured man lying in the road.

The man was treated at the scene and then taken to an east London hospital. His condition was initially described as critical but later last night was declared stable.

A 21-year-old male arrested near the scene remains in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
