Officers tracked down and arrested a man who threw a box of weed out of a van Pic: Roads & Transport MPS

A man has been arrested after being caught throwing a box of cannabis out of his van in Lewisham.

Officers were patrolling in the area on Friday (October 30) night when they drove past a van smelling strongly of cannabis.

They continued to follow the van along Gilton Road and saw the driver throwing out a big box from his window.

The driver then stopped the van and fled from the scene.

The police searched the area by foot and found the cardboard box, which contained a large amount of cannabis.

Police used sniffer dogs and were later able to locate the driver who was hiding in a housing estate garden.

Officers also found £4,000 in cash on the suspect.

The search was extended to his home, where snap bags of drugs and drug paraphernalia were found.

He was subsequently arrested for suspicion with intent to supply cannabis.
