Birdy impressed the crowd at Oslo Hackney

It was Pancake Day, but 19-year old singer Birdy was East London’s real sweet treat.

Following her appearance at the BRITs launch party, the Hampshire born singer played a one-off intimate show at Oslo Hackney.

Birdy first made her mark at 15 with her cover of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love. Her unique vocals paired with her indie appearance were always destined to be a recipe for success. However, with a third album now due out, it is more than evident she has come a long way since her cover days.

The 150-capacity venue had been transformed into a fairytale scene, with draping curtains and glistening fairy lights. Birdy emerged on stage to open the show with her new track Growing Pains.

Music aside for a moment, the production of the show was super slick and could most definitely be described as a musical feast for the eyes. The lighting took us on a journey through the colour spectrum, matching the appropriate mood for each song. It seemed that Birdy has a particular eye for detail. Her costume choice of a fiery red kimono was most definitely an appropriate choice for Fire Within. Highlight tracks from the set list include Wings and People Help the People.

Curfew sadly approached and Birdy left us with arguably her biggest hit to date – the famous version of Skinny Love. Her enchanting tones washed over the audience as we all joined in for a group sing-along.

Overall, Birdy delivered a stunning performance, which only left us hungry for more.

Birdy will be back in London to play a gig at The Roundhouse on May 10.‬ Tickets for the European tour are sale here.
