Two teenagers have appeared in court in connection with the murder of David Darko who was fatally stabbed on Saturday 23 January at South Norwood Recreational Ground.

Darnell Martin, 19, was arrested and subsequently charged with murder on Saturday. He appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court today, via video link. A 22-year-old man was also arrested on Saturday on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been bailed.

On Thursday January 28 police arrested Joshua Asante, 19, and charged him with murder. He was remanded in custody on Friday and appeared in court at the Old Bailey today. Another 22-year-old man was arrested last week also on suspicion of assisting an offender and was bailed pending further enquiries.

These developments mean that two men aged 19 have now been charged with Mr Darko’s murder, while two 22-year-old men have been bailed on condition they present themselves at a South London police station in mid-March following further investigations.

David Darko, from Addiscombe, was found “unresponsive” near Tennison road at South Norwood Recreational Ground in Croydon. A post mortem confirmed he died from a stab wound. Darko had celebrated his 21st birthday less than two weeks before his death.
