New to East London, or just ready to try some new things in your neighborhood? Julie Refsdal has tested the best apps to help you make the most of your time and money in the best part of town

East London Radio
As well as linking you up to some great music, the East London Radio app will keep you up to date with local news and weather, as well as community chat and cultural events. The app even allows you to even put in your own song requests.

Hype
Covering Lewisham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Croydon in depth, the Hype app allows users to find everything from new restaurants and pubs to gigs and pop ups. Contribute your own thoughts and pictures and you can gain followers and post tips for other users.

Too good to go
Too good to go is the app world’s latest gift to Londoners on a budget as it provides details of restaurants near you that are selling food cheaply near the end of serving times, as well as special offers. For example, pick up two pizza slices from Pixxa in Whitechapel, reduced from £8 to £2, between 22.30 and 23pm. Save the planet and help your budget at the same time.

Jack the Ripper – East London
This app gives you the chance to be your own East London tour guide, taking you through Whitechapel and describing the horrific Jack the Ripper murders of the autumn of 1888. Why not test it out around Halloween?
Compatible with iOS and android, cost: 79p

Drip
Perfect for coffee lovers in a hurry. Drip allows you to order your coffee and pay via the app before you arrive at the cafè, so all you have to do is pick it up when you get there. East London is full of small independent cafés that are on-board, so the drip app is one more reason to try them out. Need another? The first coffee is free.
