Two explosions outside Hackney town hall led to the street being sealed off today. Emergency services were called at 9.35am following reports of flames exploding out of manhole covers on Mare Street.
Underground electrical explosions are thought to be at fault and no injuries have been reported.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “police were called at approximately 9.35am to reports of two explosions underneath manhole covers in the vicinity of Mare Street, Hackney.”
Mare Street was later reopened at around 2:30pm.
Hackney Council tweeted that there is “no need to panic but please avoid the area.”
