A Lewisham police officer has been placed on restricted duties after being found guilty of assault.

PC Ben Cowen, 37, was arrested on July 14 after an altercation with a 31-year-old man at an address in Bexley.

The officer pleaded not guilty to the charge of actual bodily harm, but was convicted of common assault at Bexley Magistrates Court on October 19.

Cowen was ordered to pay a fine of £775, with a conditional discharge for one year and restricted duties on the force.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20.

Following his conviction, the offender will now face a misconduct review with the Metropolitan police.
