66-year-old pedestrian dies in hit and run in Croydon

Police have appealed for witnesses after a 66-year-old man died when he was struck by a van in Croydon on Friday evening, February 3.

The pedestrian was hit at the junction of King Henry’s Drive and Calley Down Crescent in New Addington at approximately 5.45pm.

Police officers and London Ambulance Service found him lying in the street and paramedics performed first aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver failed to stop. A 34-year-old man turned himself into a south London police station later that evening.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.

The victim’s next of kin has been informed and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit has begun an investigation into the accident.

Any witnesses of the hit-and-run are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit or Crimestoppers anonymously.
