A man was arrested on Monday evening (February 27) after chasing a woman with a knife on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs.

The police, who were called by an eyewitness,  said he was also found carrying a hammer and meat cleaver. He had been seen damaging a car with the hammer before chasing the woman.

An eyewitness told EastLondonLines: “It looked to be a domestic altercation that had escalated outside of the home, you couldn’t tell if he was on drugs or just really angry.”

According to the eyewitness, the man fought back against the police, but eventually calmed down and co-operated with his arrest.
