A house in Croydon has been left severely damaged after being hit by a petrol bomb in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 26), whilst the man living in the property is said to have been asleep in the living room.

Fire fighters were called to Edridge Road home at 3:10am, where the Met Police had already arrived and the flames were already put out.

Neighbours reported seeing two people douse the red front door with petrol – or a similar substance – poured from a plastic bottle.

The flames engulfed the front of the property, melting the plastic bottle and turning the red painted door black.

At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that an accelerant was used.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Officers and the London Fire Brigade attended. There were no reported injuries. Minor damage was caused to a front door.”

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
