A fire has torn through an unoccupied block of flats being built in Bow Wharf.

Around 80 firefighters and 12 fire engines were called to the scene on Sunday morning to tackle the blaze at the multi-million pound development on Wennington Road. The fire was extinguished within three hours.

Two aerial appliances were also sent to the scene to control the fire at the four-story property.

London Fire Brigade said the third floor and roof were said to have suffered the most damage, with nearly 75 percent being destroyed. Parts of the second floor were also affected.

Grove Road  was completely sealed off  and a nearby play area was evacuated while crews put out the fire.

The development consists of 24 units with prices of up to £1 million and construction of the block was expected to be completed this summer.

There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
