Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is to switch on the Christmas lights at Boxpark Croydon next week, it was announced today.
The ex-England boss will take to the stage with most of his first-team squad to officially kick off Boxpark’s festive events programme on Tuesday November 21.
Fans will be able to meet the players, get autographs and take pictures at the free event, which will also feature the Crystal Palace Women’s Team and a performance by the club’s cheerleading squad.
Boxpark’s festive schedule features a variety of Christmas-themed events aimed at families.
On Sunday December 3, visitors will be able to participate in a personalised wreath-making workshop, designing their own with foliage and pinecones.
Bjorn the Polar Bear will also be making an appearance on December 3. The remarkably lifelike pod-puppet – who blinks, sniffs and roars – will take up residence in his inflatable iceberg home. Visitors will be able to stroke and play with him as they learn about wild polar bears and their habitats.
On Sunday December 10, Croydon Philharmonic Choir will perform a set of classic Christmas carols.
Sunday December 17 will see the return of Boogie Monsters, with their Festive Family Acoustic Jam. The award-winning group will play a live set of classic Christmas songs and nursery rhymes in an interactive show for kids that will include snow confetti cannons and Santa Claus himself.
A series of free film screenings will take place between December 18 and 20, including classics Miracle on 34th Street and Jingle All The Way.
Boxpark Croydon recently celebrated its first anniversary. The mall on George Street hosts 35 companies and has put on more than 200 events over the past year.
Last year, the Boxpark lights were turned on by south London garage group So Solid Crew.
