Swimmers waiting for the reopening today (November 1) of the London Fields lido have expressed their frustration after the date was pushed back yet again due to shoddy repair work.
Hackney Council cited poor workmanship for the delays, saying that contractors had not got the poolside to an “acceptable standard”. He was unable to say when it would be reopening.
Councillor Jon Burke said: “We are incredibly frustrated and very disappointed by this latest delay and will provide another update when we are confident that the work will be completed to the required standard.
“There are also problems with the new mechanical and electrical systems throughout the building which need to be resolved before the facility can be safely reopened.”
The delays are the latest in a string of setbacks. EastLondonLines reported earlier this year that the repairs were initially due to finish at the start of summer, but the date had been moved forward to later in the season.
On Twitter swimmers responded with disappointment saying it couldn’t reopen soon enough, and “hurry up, London Fields Lido”.
Oh bloody hell hurry UP, London Fields Lido.

Burke went on: “The contractor is working through a series of defects to agreed deadlines – we need to be 100% certain that these will be met before announcing an opening date.” The lido was closed in April for refurbishment on the swimming pool area and changing rooms.
