A man has died in hospital after suffering a critical head injury following an assault on a bus in New Cross Gate 11 days earlier.

Julian Joseph, 36, was approached and attacked by two males on a route 53 bus near Alpha Road, in the early hours of March 13.

Joseph was left severely injured and remained in critical condition until he died on March 24.

Kirk Wright, 32, was arrested on March 15 in connection to the incident, and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Wright, of Egmont Street in Lewisham, will appear at Woolwich Crown Court on April 13.

The Metropolitan Police have said that a post-mortem examination will be scheduled and enquiries will continue, with the Homicide and Major Crime Command now leading the investigation.

Joseph’s next of kin have been notified.
