Mother charged with child ill-treatment after death of boy, 3, in Croydon

A Croydon mother, 23, has been charged with child ill-treatment following her three-year-old son’s death.

Paramedics found the three-year-old Alfie Lamb having a cardiac arrest on February 1 at his home in Adams Way in Croydon. He was taken to  St Thomas Hospital hospital and was pronounced dead on February 4.

The police declared the case as suspicious and a post-mortem examination was ordered.

Alfie’s mother appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on May 27 and has been charged with child ill-treatment and with perverting the course of justice. She was remanded in custody.

An 18-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man have also been charged with perverting the course of justice and will appear in court later.

Police said that inquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information that may assist police should call 020 8721 4205.

Scotland Yard  has asked the media not to publish the names of those persons charged.
