Life Drawing Christmas Party

The travelling market is coming to Lewisham for an edgier Christmas market, with the focus on art, crafts and “some banging booze”. No need to book, just turn up and have a festive Saturday afternoon! 

 

Thea Musgrave: A Christmas Carol 

Date: December 14 & 15, shows start at 4:30pm & 7:30pm 

Where: Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Laban Theatre 

Cost: £15 

Tickets are still on sale for the operatic version of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol. Composed by Thea Musgrave in 1978, the performance will be celebrating its 70th anniversary directed by Jennifer Hamilton.

Four Corners is hosting a celebration for the centenary year of Suffrage Pic: Christina Broom

Green Milk Presents: GOOD BOIS 

Date: December 14, 7:30pm-2am 

Where: Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club 

Cost: £12.60 

This one night only stand-up comedy event is taking place in Bethnal Green to raise money for the Blue Cross charity. With sets by Adam Riches, Olaf Falafel, Fern Brady and many more, the night promises to finish on a high with an after party and a bubble machine.

Families Go Wild Winter Fayre 

Date: December 15, 12-2pm 

Where: Spitalfields City Farm 

Cost: Free 

Located in the middle of London, volunteers of Spitalfields City Market are hosting a Wild Winter Fayre for the family. The event will include tours of the farm, mince pies and a Santa’s grotto – which is all you need to turn up and enjoy the fun. 

 

Christmas Arts and Crafts 

Date: December 15, 12-3pm 

Where: King Edward Memorial Park 

Cost: Free 

Tower Hamlets council are hosting a 2-hour free event with activities such as biscuit baking and chestnut roasting. Can’t make it? The council will also be hosting another event on December 20, at Mile End Play Pavilion.

Winter Nights and Civil Rights! 

Date: December 14, 6-9pm 

Where: Four Corners Museum

December 14 marks the anniversary of (some) women receiving the right to vote in a general election for the first time. Four Corners is hosting a celebration for this significant event with seasonal drinks, ballot box voting and live music from jazz trio, The Valentinos.

Alternative Carols 

Date: December 16, 5pm & 7pm 

Where: St Luke’s Church, Hackney 

Cost: Free 

The parish church of Hackney is hosting two performances of a carol service at the St Luke’s Church. This will be a contemporary yet intimate service with local musicians King Charles, Claudia Costa, Nate Hayes, Caz Brand and others. 

The performance will then be followed by an after-party at the church’s own Brewery. 

 

The Hackney Christmas Market 

Date: December 15-16, 11-6pm 

Where: Bohemia Place, opposite Hackney Central Overground Station 

Cost: Free 

With over 50 independent traders selling Christmas decorations and gifts, the market will be celebrating its third year with craft beers, mulled wine and carolling.

EartH and Luna Cinema create Christmas 

Date: December 17-22, 3:45pm & 7pm 

Where: EartH, 13 Stoke Newington Rd

Cost: General Admission is £18.50, Child Admission (Age 3-15) is £13.50, Disabled and Carer General Admission is £9.25. 

The famous cinema brand, who is known for hosting film screenings to unusual venues, is bringing Christmas to Evolutionary Arts Hackney in Stoke Newington. Famous Christmas films such as Home Alone, Elf and Miracle on 34th Street will be hosted in the art deco venue.

Deck the Halls! 

Date: December 14, 7-9:30pm 

Where: St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood 

Cost: £5.92 – £38.96 

London Mozart Players will be joined by special guests from The Croydon Citadel Band of the Salvation Army, local Primary Schools and The Crisis Skylight Croydon Singers to celebrate the festive season. Songs like Jinglebell Rock Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Sleigh Ride will be some of the few classics to be played.

The true sign of Christmas has come to Croydon. Come and get an instagram-able picture, a free can of a coca cola of your choice and experience a “glittering winter wonderland”. 

 

Groove Kitchen 

Date: December 16, 7:30-10pm 

Where: Boxpark Croydon 

Cost: Free 

Celebrate one year of Groove Kitchen with their open mic jam sessions. Bring in your own instruments to get yourself involved with the house band. Booking is not necessary, just pop on down!
