Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri has joined Crystal Palace from São Paulo on loan until the end of the season. Palace will have an option to buy once the loan is over.

Perri said: “It’s an amazing feeling, I’m really glad to join the club. Two months ago, I knew [about] the possibility to join Palace. Since then, I was pretty anxious to be here because I really wanted that. It’s huge, it’s a really important thing to me. It’s the opportunity of my life and I’m going to do whatever it takes.”

Goalkeepers Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey both have injuries. Palace boss Roy Hodgson selected 39-year-old Julian Speroni against Liverpool last weekend.

The 21-year-old excelled in Brazil’s national under-20 team, with whom he featured in the South American Under-20 Championship in 2015 and 2017.

Perri said: “Today goalkeepers have to play with their feet. Safety is everything though, it’s the security for the team; to gain the team’s trust is the most important thing.

“It’s tougher in England, here you need more strength to play. The focus needs to be higher I think.”

Perri becomes the fourth Brazilian to join the south London club, following in the footsteps of Andre Moritz, Fumaça and Diego Cavalieri.
