Bethnal Green bat attack leaves man in critical condition

A man has suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a group of men with a baseball bat in Bethnal Green.

The attack took place yesterday in Globe Road shortly after 5pm, where police remained at the scene this morning.

The man was rushed to an east London hospital for treatment.

A police spokesperson said he was in critical condition.

He said: “At this early stage it appears he was assaulted by a group of men armed with a bat.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told EastLondonLines: “We were called at 5.11pm on 27 May to Globe Road, E2, to reports of an incident.

“We sent an incident response officer, an ambulance crew and a response car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.”

There have not yet been any arrests, but police are continuing their enquiries.

The one-way section of Globe Road, north of Roman Road, is expected to remain closed all day due to ongoing police investigation, according to Tower Hamlets Police.
