Shoreditch gets fit for charity

“Fitness found me. I used to work in psychology, hoping to become a consultant one day, I realised I could do the same thing through getting people moving instead of just talking or prescribing medication.”

Nicola Georgia is explaining why she ditched her planned career in psychology and fell in love with fitness instead: “I’m hosting charity events each month until the end of the year where anyone can participate in an hour of sweaty fun, in aid of the charity Mencap, which supports those with learning disabilities.

Georgia’s events change location each month, all featuring a live DJ providing punchy tunes to motivate those taking part in the high intensity session. The workout comprises of strength work combined with short bursts of cardio to make up a one-hour circuit. Clients of all abilities are invited to participate, encouraging newcomers to circuit training to get involved and support the cause.

Georgia says of the event: “I wanted to teach people about something that every single person can benefit from.” She chooses a different charity to support each time and each ticket sale is donated fully to the cause. “Not only do the sessions get those feel-good endorphins pumping, but we also help to benefit our community in getting fit. It’s a no-brainer to me, why not use my fitness coaching skills to help as many people as possible?”

Attendee Mariam Lowe said of the event: “It brings together a huge variety of people from different backgrounds and fitness levels. Not only do we make new friends as we train, but we also break down our boundaries. All-inclusive and all-encompassing, Nicola’s events are empowering to every individual that takes part.”

Georgia held an event yesterday and hoped to have raised around £300 or more every penny of which she will donate to the Mencap, which supports children with learning disabilities including autism and Downs Syndrome.

More like a party than a gym session, tickets to the event will include a one-hour workout, boosted by a live Dj and by protein shakes to refuel on. Georgia is hosting just one more to top off 2019 in December though the location and date are yet to be announced.
