Whatever the weather forecast, one thing is certain: it is going to be a white Christmas in Croydon town centre, with snow machines firing up and beginning a season of festivities this Saturday.

The snow cannons come as part of Croydon’s ‘Christmas Extravaganza’ this weekend. They will feature in the borough’s North End alongside an amusement ride, free theatre, live music, and, of course, an appearance by Santa Claus.

Snow will be blasted from the machines every hour, on the hour, from midday to 6:00pm.

Croydon Business Improvement District, is organising the festivities in partnership with Centrale & Whitgift Shopping Centres.

After starting up this weekend, the snow machines will bring joy every day right through to Christmas Eve and they will be running when Croydon’s annual Christmas Market starts on November 28.

Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID, said in a statement: “This Christmas will be different. Kicking us off, our Christmas Celebration weekend will offer up moments of enjoyment, laughter and warm festive feelings for everyone, whatever age you are, this Christmas.”

He told Eastlondonlines: “It’s a wonderful opportunity. It’s about creating magical moments for people to enjoy, have fun, and do their shopping.”
