Online dance classes to keep you active during lockdown

Forget online HIIT workouts or 5k runs, local dance communities in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Lewisham and Croydon have come to the rescue for those at home wanting to stay active and keep entertained in the comfort of their homes.

Here are some of the local online dance classes that cover a variety of abilities, ages and styles!

English National Ballet (Tower Hamlets):

The English National Ballet are providing a range of free online classes for everyone and anyone. From beginners to professionals and those with restricted mobilities, there is no excuse not to join in! All online classes are openly accessible at any time on their website or on their YouTube channel

Family Ballet Workshop

Youth Dance class for 11-16 years olds

Dance for Parkinson’s class 

BalletFit Class, for beginners to experienced dancers 

Beginners-Improvers Ballet Class 

Ballet Class with Tamara Rojo, for professional dancers

Dance Stables (Hackney): 

With their notion of celebrating diversity, identity and to inspire, Dance Stables are offering dance classes for styles such as ballet, street dance, and contemporary dance. Classes are available to book on their website:

Kids Class – Minis (3-5yrs) £7.50:

Tuesday 2:30pm, Thursday 2:30pm

Kids Class – Juniors (6-11yrs) £8.50:

Tuesday 3:15pm, Wednesday 10am, Thursday 3:15pm 

Kids Class – Seniors (11+) £8.50: 

Wednesday 4:45pm 

Adults Online Class (16+) £8.50:

Monday 7:15pm, Wednesday 5:45pm, Thursday 10am, Friday 7:15pm

Family Online Class £8.50:

Friday 10am

Kids Online Members £32 per month/ £4 per class/ £7.50 per week

Adult Online Members £32 per month/ £4 per class/ £8.50 per week 

Family Online Members £40 or £3.50 per class/ £8.50 per week

Zumba NXG (Lewisham): 

Specialising in helping those who want to keep fit, happy and healthier as an alternative to the gym. They are providing online ballet, Zumba, and dance funk fitness classes using the Zoom App – a free group video calling app.  A free first taster class is available for Zumba and Dance Funk Fitness class. A first taster class for the alternative classes is £1. Classes are available to book on their website.

The classes come in packages, charging each household:

£22.50 – 5 Class Pack 

£40 – 10 Class Pack 

Zumba – Tuesday, Friday 7:15pm 

Ballet (beginners/improvers level) – Tuesday, Wednesday 8:30pm

Dance Funk Fitness – Monday, Wednesday 7:15pm

Babyballet (Croydon): Currently providing online ballet classes with sing-along videos, activities and stories, for children aged 18 months to six years old during their summer term (20 April- 23 May). They offer a three-week introductory trial for £15 and all classes after the trial are £7 – Register on their website for further details.
