Hackney and the City of London have the third highest infection rates of Covid-19 in the capital, based on figures from the seven days to Thursday, October 15.

Ealing still takes first place with the highest infection rate, standing at 148.0 cases per 100,000, with 506 new cases in the seven days to 15th October – increasing from 456 the week before.

Despite this, Monday’s update of the rolling seven-day rate of new Covid-19 cases has shown that numbers are actually falling in the areas with the highest rates in England.

Hackney and City of London rates have fallen from 135.8 to 134.1, with 390 cases in total.

These numbers are expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people. Tests were carried out in laboratories and in the wider community to obtain the figures. Data for the most recent five days (October 15-20) has been excluded as its incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Tower Hamlets has the second highest rate, with 354 cases being recorded in the seven days to October 15 – the equivalent of 109.0 cases per 100,000 people. This rate has shown an increase since the previously recorded rate, standing at 102.8 (334 cases).

Lewisham is in third place, where the rate has risen from 72.6 to 77.2, a significant increase, with 236 cases up from 222.

Croydon has also demonstrated a sizeable increase, rising from 71.9 to 75.0, with 290 new cases.

This information is based on Public Health England data published on October 19 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.
