London has narrowly escaped local lockdown restrictions coming into place today across the country, despite there being 63,781 active cases of Covid-19 in London as of today with Brent, Croydon and Barnet being the worst affected areas.
All boroughs including Hackney, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets and Croydon remain at tier one of the new system; meaning the rule of six and the 10 pm curfew remains in place.
However Sadiq Khan the mayor of London said yesterday that a tier-two lockdown in the capital was ‘inevitable’ this week, adding that all boroughs would face the same restrictions, at the same time.
“London will go into lock down as one city” he said.
Hackney
As of today, the number of active infections in Hackney and the City of London is 2,175, with the average daily increase standing at 53.

Lewisham
As of today, the number of active infections in Lewisham is 1,993, with the average daily increase being 41.

Croydon
As of today the number of active infections in Croydon is 2,791 with the average daily increase being 48.

Tower Hamlets
As of today the number of active infections in Tower Hamlets is 2,035, with the average daily increase standing at 63.

Labour MP Sam Tarry (Ilford South) has written to Health Secretary Matt Hancock to call for a “circuit-breaker lockdown” across London.
Under the new arrangements announced by the Prime Minister in parliament on Monday:
– The medium alert level will cover most of England including London and will consist of the current national measures, including the rule of six and the 10pm curfew.
– The high alert level reflects interventions in many areas subject to local restrictions, preventing mixing between different households indoors.
Most areas which are already subject to local restrictions will automatically move into this category, as well as Nottinghamshire, East and West Cheshire and a small area of High Peak.
– The very high alert level will mean, at a minimum, the closure of pubs and bars and a ban on social mixing indoors and in private gardens.
Areas in the top tier will be able to impose extra restrictions, and in the Liverpool city region this will mean the closure of leisure centres, gyms, betting shops and casinos.
Public Health England (PHE) said the rising number of Covid-19 deaths is “concerning”.
Dr Yvonne Doyle, PHE medical director, said: “The trend in Covid-related deaths is starting to rise quickly, which is hugely concerning.
Londoners have been vaguely warned about the potential for a local lockdown in the coming days, to regain control over the virus.
