Lockdown life: Takeout tipples to liven up your weekend

Get your sparkly gear and party music ready because we have compiled you a list of the best takeaway cocktails, beers and wines the ELL boroughs have to offer.

We may be in lockdown, but we all still need that weekend party feeling! Just because you’re confined to your home, does not mean there is no time for fun. Whether you are in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham or Croydon there is something here for you in our lockdown-friendly drinks list.

Lewisham

If you have a celebration coming up, the Lil Nan Bar have created a series of home cocktail party boxes! Each has a theme and a signature cocktail and is filled with party decorations and fun accessories to make your living room more atmospheric. They also have a “Locktail” kit for 4 people. It comes in little jars and can be delivered across the UK or collected at their bar in Deptford MarketYard, Lewisham.

The Brickfield bar on Brockley Road, sister bar to The Orchard Bar & Kitchen, is serving takeaways on Friday and Sundays. Their cocktails are made with intriguingly flavoured alcohols like the House Infused Chilli Absolut Vodka or the Beefeater Strawberry Gin. They have special offers if you buy two or four cocktails.

The Bottle bar and shop on Catford Broadway, are delivering their delicious and natural cocktails for free within a three-mile radius. They also sell homemade gin and vodka infused with Earl Grey, berries, pink grapefruit or cucumber.

Hackney

The East London Liquor Company produces its own affordable and ethical spirits and delivers their colourful bottles nationwide. For a lavender gin, a Demerara Rum, or a special blended whisky, all you need to do is email them by 4pm for next-day delivery. They also sell inventive canned cocktails!

The Quarantinis of Hackney delivers their pre-batched 700ml cocktails in East London. They sell on Instagram, so ordering as easy as sending a message asking for your favourite cocktail from next week’s menu.

Happiness Forgets, located in a basement on Hoxton Square, is open for click and collect from Wednesday to Sunday afternoon, and also deliver addresses up to nine miles from the bar. They have a menu of about 15 creative 250 ml cocktails, from the “Tokyo Collins” made with gin yuzu, sake and grapefruit to the “Penicillin” made with Scotch, honey and ginger, or even the “Jerezena” made of sweet and dry vermouth, mixed with vanilla and orange bitters.

The famous cocktail bar, MAP Maison on Kingsland Road in Dalston, keep offering on delivery and takeaways his finest and varied cocktails. They have also launched MAP Lab, delivering premium cocktails made out of quality ingredients and spirits from around the world. And for the true aficionado, MAP Maison organize online masterclasses on all the finest spirits from Japanese whisky to the Mexican Mezcal and English gin.

Croydon

Croydon may be a little off the beaten track for cocktail enthusiasts, but we have found a more unusual place to get your mixed-drink fix. Caribbean restaurant and cocktail bar The Dutchie will deliver intriguing punches to your door, with ingredients including Guinness, peanut butter and nutmeg.

For a good old-fashioned margarita, a martini or a Long Island iced tea, the American restaurant chain TGI Fridays of Croydon have a click and collect service. Served in 200 ml aluminium bottles which are 100% recyclable, these cocktails can be ordered in pack of four and six.

Tower Hamlets

If you cannot wait for Christmas, the Callooh Callay, Shoreditch offers a selection of cocktail recipes with a winter twist, like blood orange margaritas and ginger and mandarin mules. Every cocktail comes in a minimum size of 500 ml and orders must be made by 10pm for a delivery the next day.

The Cocktail Trading Co. Brick Lane was founded by  three London bartenders out of a love for tasty cocktails. They deliver their 250 ml and 500 ml bottled cocktails seven days a week, from 5 to 8 pm. And since they are a closed bar with absolutely loads of spare toilet paper, you can pick up a roll or two from their online shop at the same time.

Cocktails aren’t your cup of tea?

Here’s a list of alternative tipples to see you through these long winter nights:

  • For beer lovers: the Cronx Brewery, run by two Croydon residents, delivers their local craft beers for free if you are in an eight-mile radius.
  • Howl at the Moon in Hoxton is open every day from 12 noon till 8pm for takeout beers and tacos. You can bring your own container or buy a Howl Two Pint Jars and bring it every time you come to refill it.  
  • For all of you wine aficionados, Passione Vino in Shoreditch – supplier to some of London’s top restaurants – has just launched a wine delivery service. Whether you’re looking to try out a quirky new independent wine or an old school classic, give them a ring on 02034870600.
  • And if you’ve never tried orange wine, Silver Linings of Hackney continues to deliver bottles. This wine results from leaving the skins of grapes on during fermentation.
