Police and ambulance crews were called to Addington Road and arrived at around 4:30pm but the 93-year-old had succumbed to serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident involved the elderly pedestrian and a van whose driver stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “In particular, they would like to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on dash cam or other camera footage.”
