A charity founded by Lewisham born grime artist Fekky will be running a free breakfast club for young people in Lewisham in the run-up to Christmas.

From December 1, CC Foundation will give local children and young adults the opportunity to have a free breakfast every week.

Tian Binns, success manager at the CC Foundation said the ‘CC Breakfast’ club would help “support families and young adults that are feeling the strain of the cost-of-living crisis”.

Data from the British Retail Consortium shows that UK food price inflation hit the highest annual rate on record last month, reaching 11.6 per cent.

Fekky said in a statement: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day… let’s give the future of our communities the best chance at learning by starting the day the right way.”

The new initiative is one of the many schemes launched by the charity helping remove the barriers young people face when accessing education. CC Foundation started the UK’s first ‘laptop library’ in July last year after a survey of 13,000 Lewisham children found that 84 per cent did not have access to a laptop or computer outside of school.

CC Breakfast will be held once a week in the lead up to Christmas and two to three times a week from January 2023.

The food menu on offer will contain ethically sourced produce, including eggs from Fekky’s own farm. Binns added: “We aim to encourage children and young adults to make food conscious decisions for their wellbeing.”

The charity is encouraging people to sign up via its website to book a slot as there is a 15–20-person capacity.

Fekky launched CC Foundation in 2020. The artist has a 137K Instagram following and released his debut album El Clasico in 2017, following it up with Red Wine in March this year.

He has collaborated with the likes of Dizzee Rascall and Skepta and performed at the Brit Awards, Reading and Leeds Festivals during his career.
