Hackney Central attack: Man shot in leg and stabbed

An attack at Hackney Central station on Wednesday resulted in a man being stabbed several times and shot in the leg.

According to British Transport Police, the man was found with stab wounds and taken to hospital in a critical condition.

It has been revealed today that the 20-year-old man was shot once in his leg and has “multiple” laceration wounds. In spite of his critical condition, he remains stable.

At the scene, a knife, a bullet, and a bullet casing were recovered.

As a result of the investigation, the station was closed for more than seven hours yesterday.

Detective Inspector Paul Attwell said: “While I appreciate this incident may come as a shock to the local community, it is important to state that this was an isolated incident.”

“We have been conducting extensive enquiries at the station and in the local area and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it – they may have information that could be crucial to our investigation.”

“The public will notice an increased presence of officers at the station and in the surrounding area to provide reassurance following the incident.” At this time, no arrests have been made.
