A 19-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Ash Tree Way, Croydon on October 29.

The Metropolitan Police attended the address after receiving a call around 4 pm.

Police officers arrived on the scene alongside paramedics and found the woman, named as Mehak Sharma, suffering from stab injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene – a post-mortem examination will take place.

The woman is believed to be an Indian national who arrived in the United Kingdom recently.

Her family is yet to be traced by police. Officers are working to identify and inform her family.

Sahil Sharma, 23, was arrested on the spot and was later taken to hospital to treat a minor head injury.

He is being charged with murder and will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on October 31.

The police believe that the woman and man knew each other.

Currently, nobody else is sought in connection to the investigation.
