A seven-month-long exhibition showcasing the phenomenal work of Croydonian musicians at the Museum of Croydon has been launched.
Rewind: This is Croydon’s Music History brought artists together from across generations and genres, providing a deep dive into Croydon’s rich music history.
The launch night, which was held at the museum on February 8, included live music, speeches from contributors, and a preview of the exhibit.
Through trauma and triumph, it is a journey that many people here share. People come together to support each other, even when it gets ugly, you have to see the beautiful.
Rapper Still Shadey
Croydonian rapper Still Shadey also told ELL what Croydon means to him, and how he feels about the exhibition.
“We have this opportunity now, not to just hear one story, but an amalgamation of stories. It’s an honour to be part of this multifaceted place.
“Through trauma and triumph, it is a journey that many people here share. People come together to support each other, even when it gets ugly, you have to see the beautiful.
“Croydon is an amalgamation of different cultures, and we are celebrating every single one of its differences.”
Nadia Rose, a rapper from Croydon who is featured in the exhibition, told Eastlondonlines: “Being in this exhibition is quite surreal because as a child I used to come here. But now I am the one being discovered and learned about, and my story is being shared.”
Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon attended the event and urged people to “come down to Croydon” and see the “fantastic” exhibition.
