Seventeen-year-old arrested over murder of teenager

A 17-year-old has been was arrested over the fatal stabbing of another teenager, also 17, on Hackney Road in Hoxton on Saturday.

The victim who is yet to be named by police, was found with knife wounds shortly after 11pm and passed away at the scene, despite efforts by paramedics. A post-mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow, Wednesday at Poplar Mortuary.

The police investigation has involved forensic work at the scene, interviewing witnesses, reviewing CCTV footage, and carrying out door to door enquiries in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, said in a statement: “A family has been left devastated following the tragic death of yet another young man on our streets. We have been working tirelessly to establish what happened and find whoever is responsible for this shocking attack. While we have already spoken to a number of people, the incident took place on a busy road and we know there will have been others in the area at the time who are yet to come forward. I would ask those individuals to make contact and tell us what you saw.”
