Welcome to The Hotline, the 3-part mini-series answering environmental questions coming out of Lewisham, Croydon, Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
Show notes:
In section one of the podcast we took a look at local options for electrical recycling. CeX provides a great option to trade-in your old electricals while getting a discount on upgrades but for a borough-by-borough breakdown of where to recycle your electricals we recommend the following:
- In Lewisham, check out the Lewisham Donations Hub
- In Croydon and Tower Hamlets, the British Heart Foundation shops accept electrical appliances
- In Hackney, the Forest Recycling Project should be your first port of call
For more unusual items, we would recommend the following:
- In Lewisham, take a look at the Landmann Way recycling centre
- In Hackney, you have a choice of using the Walthamstow and Islington Recycling Centres
- For Tower Hamlets Yabsley Street Recycling takes a variety of materials
- In Croydon, Fishers Farm is a large recycling centre with a reuse shop on site
To find out where your nearest recycling bins are for textiles and more, go to Recyclenow.com and if you want to learn more about where our food waste recycling goes, take a look at the East London Biogas Plant.
For further information, explore the data on microplastics, and DEFRA reports for rates of recycling in your borough.
Episode 1: Recycling, was edited and produced by Kate Balding. The show was researched and presented by Kate Balding and Rachel Keenan; with original music from Pius Bentgens.
