Hodgson extends Eagles deal until 2021

Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, has signed a new contract committing him to the club until 2021. Hodgson, the Premier League’s oldest manager at 72, confirmed last month that discussions over a new deal were underway and now he has committed to a fourth season at the club having joined in September 2017.

Hodgson, who will now extend his managerial career into its 45th year, told Crystal Palace’s official website that he was proud to extend his stay.

He said: “I am delighted that the club and I have reached [an] agreement to extend my contract. I am proud of what we have achieved since I was appointed two and a half years ago, and I look forward to us working together for the foreseeable future.”

It is a career that has seen him manage global heavyweights such as Liverpool and Inter Millan as well as the national teams of England, Switzerland and the UAE, but Hodgson showed the pride he takes in managing his boyhood club.

He said: “Everyone knows how I feel about the club that I supported as a boy. I feel a special bond with the supporters and know that myself, the owners and the players are all working together to achieve the same goal.”

Crystal Palace are currently on course for their best ever premier league season, as they have more points at this stage of the season than any previous premier league campaign. The Eagles have seemingly secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 victory at fierce rivals Brighton last Saturday. That victory was the 9th of the season and leaves Palace just four points off the European places with 10 games of the season remaining.

Palace are next in action on Saturday, where they head to Watford. Watford come into the game on the back of beating champions-elect Liverpool and ending their attempt for an unbeaten season. Victory could see Palace move into the top half of the table.

Kick-off is at 3pm.
