This week is the Love your Local Market fortnight and all over the boroughs you can sign up for £10 for a stall so get trading! On top of this we have a great mix of festivals – everything from the very local Hither Green Festival, to the Children Festival in Dalston and Field day in Victoria Park so get ready with your wellies and get out there!
Launch party of Children Festival

Dalston's Children’s Festival is launching this Saturday offering a great range of entertainment, events and workshops. Amongst the events are wall climbing, practising and learning spanish, a video making workshop with smartphones, a film animation workshop and lots more. All events are free.

The Hackney Society screens film about London

Film screening of the London Nobody Knows from 1967, directed by Norman Cohen with James Mason. The film captures the London of the past, from the meths drinkers in Spitalfields to abandoned music halls. This screening is to help raise funds for the Hackney Society, founded in 1967, the year the film was made.

Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street E1 7QX
The Whitechapel Gallery is currently showing the modern art of Romanian twins Gert and Uwe Tobias whose styles combine communist era with European folklore and German post-war paintings. Their art includes woodcuts, sculptures, collages and drawings.

Music festival inVictoria Park

Annual music festival Field Day is taking over in Victoria Park this Saturday with music from all over the indie spectrum such as Animal Collective, Bat for Lashes and Django Django. The event starts around 11am and will continue throughout the day on the nine different stages.

‘The Selfish Giant’ in Hither Green

The Selfish Giant, a short story by Oscar Wilde, will be performed by Springs Dance Company as part of the Hither Green Festival running throughout this week. The play is a a great mix of storytelling and dance for adults and children.

Unique musical experience at the Horniman Museum

A gamelan music workshop will be held at the Horniman Museum. The traditional music genre from Indonesia uses a selection of gongs, drums and metallophones. The session is led by the leader of the Uk's premier Balinese Gamelan group.

Political comedian Mark Thomas comes to St Matthews Yard to perform his new show '100 Acts of Minor Dissent' where he lists everything from the smallest and silliest gesture to the grandest confrontations and the results are subversive, hilarious, mainly legal and occasionally inspiring.
