Brockley shooting victim named

The Metropolitan police have named the young man found shot dead near Brockley police station in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The body of Matthew Clement, 23, was discovered lying in Howson Road just after 2 a.m. and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His murder is being investigated by detectives from Operation Trident, the specialist police team dealing with gun crime in London’s black community. An urgent appeal for witnesses has been made.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Hutchison said:

“This murder took place in a quiet residential street in the early hours. We rely on the help of the community to find the perpetrators and get justice for Matthew and his family.”

Mr Clement’s family have been informed.

This is the second shooting murder in Lewisham in less than a month. Nathan Allen, 21, was shot dead in Ludwick Mews on the Woodpecker estate on May 3.
