Man arrested over shooting at social club

A man found beaten up in the street has been arrested on suspicion of shooting at a Turkish social club in Stoke Newington.

The man is thought to have fired five shots at the Karadeniz Social Club, in Newington Green on Sunday night, before attempting to flee the scene on his bicycle. No one was injured in the attack, but the gunman is believed to have been chased down the street and confronted by a group of men from the club.

Shortly afterwards, police responding to an emergency call found a man suffering from face and head injuries on the corner of Aden Grove and Springdale Rd in Newington Green.

The injured man was arrested after he had been discharged from hospital following treatment for his injuries.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested who was assaulted following the incident in which five shot were fired at a community club.”

The man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He is currently in police custody. The weapon has not been recovered.
