Police have arrested three men in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old man in Hackney Wick last Thursday.
Detectives said today that they would revisit the scene on Thursday this week to appeal to the public for information. The victim has been identified as Alex Vanderpuye.
Officers were called to the scene at the junction of Christie Road and Cassland Road in Hackney Wick last Thursday afternoon. Paramedics attended the scene but the man, was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
His post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a stab wound.
At this stage, officers retain an open mind regarding motive, although its believed that the victim was “involved in an altercation with a group before he was fatally attacked”. No arrests have been made so far.
In an appeal for information, Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo, said: “My officers will be at the scene of the murder on Thursday, December 14 from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will be available to speak with anyone who believes they may have seen something. We will also be distributing leaflets in the area that will include contact details”
“Hackney is a busy and vibrant and this incident took place at a time where lots of people would have been around. No matter how insignificant you think it may be, please make the call.”
This is the second fatal stabbing attack in the borough within a month, with a twenty-one-year-old Deliveroo driver stabbed to death at Monteagle Way on November 13.
Knife crime in Hackney have increased 10.8 per cent in the last year, with 562 happening in 2016/17, an increase from 507 in 2015/16.
