From black-owned Hackney to international storytelling: a round-up of events

With reading week for most university students on the horizon, it can be daunting to scour the internet for last-minute suggestions about what to do and where to go here is our rundown of some interesting events. 

  • Black Owned Hackney Night Market  

Where: Bohemia Place, Hackney, E8 1DU 

When: Fri 12 Nov, 18:00-22:00 GMT- Fri 24 Dec, 18:00-22:00 GMT 

Cost: £0-2 entry fee 

Culture lovers will be able to get a taste of the Black Culture at the Black Owned Night Market which will be taking place every Friday in November/December in collaboration with Black Eats LDN. The market will be right opposite Hackney Central station showcasing London’s best black-owned eats , artisan traders and many more black-owned businesses. People attending can bring their friends and family and dance to @thehackneysocial and enjoy drinks from the likes of London DJ collectives such as Love At First Vibe & Sket.  

  • We Are Vintage Kilo Pop-Up – Hackney 

Where: Hackney Town Hall, Mare Street, E8 1EA 

When: Sun 14 Nov, 10:00-17:00 GMT 

Cost: £0-1.50 fee 

Fashion lovers will be able to find sustainable fashion items, vintage and second-hand clothing sold by the kilo at the Vintage Kilo Pop-up this Sunday. Second Life Fashion clothes from both big and smaller brands will be sold for just £20 a kilo. High-quality vintage with well-known brands from the 60s-00s items in sizes from XXS to plus sizes will be available for sale. Before attending people need to book their slots at we are.   • Non-Monogamy Drinks 

Where: Fox & Firkin, 316 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6JZ 

When: Thu 11 Nov, 19:00–22:00 GMT

  • Lewisham Urban Opera Community Workshop 

Where: The Green Man, 355 Bromley Road, SE6 2RP 

When: Sat 13 Nov & Sat 20 Nov, 11:00-13:00 GMT.

All opera lovers, who have no plans for the upcoming weekend, then put Lewisham Urban Opera Community Workshop in your check list. You can enjoy yourself by singing, dancing and storytelling with a range of industry experts such as Gwyneth Herbert and be working together to create the Lewisham Urban Opera, a part of the Lewisham Borough of Culture Celebrations for 2022.   •  MIDWEEK MOTIVE

Each and every Wednesday evening, Boxpark Croydon provides a midweek motive. If you are a music and street food manic with love for socialising then you can set your mood for every Wednesday evening with Soulful House, R&B, Amapiano, Funk, Soul, Jazz, and Disco. You will also be able grab a drink from the bars, some food from one of the street food traders and catch a midweek vibe. Before planning to attend, make sure you register for a Boxpark black card for entry as well as priority access to their future events and offers.   • FRIDAY FEELINGS

Party lovers with no plans for the weekend can now enjoy themselves, vibing at Friday Feelings in Boxpark. You will be able to grab a drink from the bar, some food the available street food vendors, sit back and enjoy the Friday vibes while socialising with people at Boxpark Croydon. DJs will be spinning at the Atrium from 5pm until late, then from 8pm beatbox DJs will be playing RnB, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Funky House & Chart-Topping Hits inside Boxpark’s club space: 18s+.   • Tower Hamlets Inter Faith Forum: Bridge Over Troubled Water 

Where: St. Margaret’s House, 21 Old Ford Road, E2 9PL 

When: Tue 16 Nov 2021, 18:00–20:00 GMT

Bridge Over Troubled Water is welcoming people from all faiths in Tower Hamlets to get together and celebrate the work of local faith groups, highlight the unique offer that faiths provide to society, and build a resilient community post Covid. There will  be guest speakers from: East London Mosque, Quaker Social Action & Faith Action and more but to be confirmed. Refreshments will be provided for the people attending on the day.   • Kiccha! Intergenerational storytelling in East London 

Where: Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Road, E1 4UJ

Storytelling lovers from Bangladeshi origin or interested in the Bangladesh culture, Kiccha! Intergenerational storytelling will be able to satisfy all of your needs. The event consists of a film screening of six Stories from Home short films, a live story retelling by a family from the project, and a panel discussion based on key reflections of project participants and event attendees.
