It’s time to fill up those stockings: Christmas markets you can visit this weekend

Christmas is coming and if you’re in need of some last-minute stocking fillers, there is no better place to go than a Christmas market. Croydon, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Lewisham are holding a variety of markets this week, with a range of homemade gifts to choose from. For those in need of some inspiration, Eastlondonlines took a look at the Christmas markets that can’t be missed in our area this week.

The London Artisan are holding a curated Christmas market event at The Truman Brewery on Brick Lane this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, you can shop between 11am and 6pm to see handmade, organic and sustainable jewellery, ceramics, glassware, textiles, homewares, illustration and beauty products from 50 different designers.

The London Artisan offers a “diverse, quality, shopping experience that celebrates independent producers and makers. But more than that, it’s about people and place; meeting the makers, conversations with friends and embedding the social back into shopping”.

If you wish to shop more after the market, Brick Lane is famous for its vintage and food markets, so grab a bite to eat and fill up those stockings in time for Christmas.

There is a Hackney Christmas market event this weekend at the Bohemia Place Market. On Friday evening between 4pm and 10pm, there will be a night market showcasing vegan street food, artisan traders, festive drinks, sustainably-made clothing, gifts and skincare and music.

On Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 6pm, the day market resumes and you will be able to attend gifting workshops in Hackney Social. Mulled wine, cocktails hot and cold food stalls are available while you shop for stocking fillers from an array of London’s independent traders.

Bohemia Place Market promise to bring “sparkle to the street with an enchanted woodland feel; think fresh pine trees lined up, repurposed wooden snuggle spots and glittering lights strung above”.

Blue Borough Culture Market is hosting a Christmas market in St Laurence Hall, Catford, this Saturday between 1pm and 7pm. BBCM wishes to support local businesses of Caribbean and African heritage living near Lewisham by creating a place to present and sell their products. There will be 20 black businesses showcasing their products.

These products include Candles, skin and hair care, handmade crafts, body balms, multicultural books, toys, greeting cards, stationary, festive food and drinks and more. Head down on Saturday to support Black Businesses, listen to some great music, enjoy a festive drink or two and grab some last-minute gifts.

This Saturday between 11am and 4:30pm, The Windrush Generation Legacy Association are hosting a Christmas market event on the first floor of Croydon’s Whitgift Centre.

TWGLA are a charity which aims to celebrate and share the contributions of the Windrush Generation with communities. There will be Caribbean food, homemade drinks, cakes, toys, hampers, hair and body products, candles, accessories and more on offer from African and Caribbean owned businesses. If you wish to eat some delicious food while you shop, head down to the Whitgift Centre on Saturday.
