Millwall Football Club has been suffering from poor attendance figures for decades. Today, ELL starts a three-part series – Lost Lions: where are Millwall’s fans? – looking into the reasons Millwall can’t fill their stadium, what is driving their fans away, and how they are trying to get them back.
Today, in the first part of our series we look at Millwall’s ticket prices and whether or not they are to blame for poor match-day attendance. And if you think £333 is too much to pay for a season ticket, use our infographic to find some cheaper alternatives.
In day two of the series, we look at Millwall’s infamous reputation for hooliganism, and ask if fear keeps fans away – or is it simply that Millwall fans are tired of their team’s poor performance? Are you part of the problem? Take our quiz to see if you are a loyal supporter or a fickle fan.
In day three of the series, we visit The Den on match day to explore what Millwall are doing to attract fans and how they are giving back to the community.
So is the Den half-full, or half-empty? Read our three-part series Lost Lions: where are Millwall’s fans? and follow #LostLions on Twitter to find out …
Maybe Millwall or football not moved with the time with kick off times. Most Millwall fans are working class. Most jobs now require Saturday work. The weekend is only now for office workers. So paying £333 for season ticket when you can only get to half of games is stupid. Then once you let your season ticket go on your free weekend spending time with family becomes more important.
8 years ago i could never see myself not going but supporting my family meant shift work.
I wrote to club 5 years ago asking for Late Saturday night games. This would allow most shop workers and bus drivers and similar jobs a chance to change shifts .
Unfortunately the FA will never change so it was finally goodbye to Millwallfc.
Before any comments I was a season ticket holder for over 12 years .
The jurney to the den is taking longer from Crayford by as much as forty mins I am a season ticket holder in the B K stand upper tier and the price of the ticket is very reasonable. The all seater stadium has let the atmosphere dwindle, midweek attendees suffer with Sky showing a night of football and many other alternative to keep crowd at home.I have supported the club for 66 years and in 1950 we were in Div three south and here we are 66 years later at the same level. Will we ever be a big club I fear not, the cheap option has always been the clubs mantra and we are living in a world where cheap will no longer do for most people. Would a winning team bring a larger crowd ? Yes but can we afford one ? ? ?
Season ticket prices reasonable, journey taking longer, midweek crowds suffer due to many other alternatives on people’s time. A winning team would help improve the crowd figures but could we afford to buy one ? The clubs mantra has always been buy cheap and the one season they spent big money the were promoted to old Div 1 need I say more.
I don’t go Millwall all that often, because i live over 400 miles away.
