It has been 13 years since the first Harry Potter book was published and the boy wizard with a lightening scar has already touched millions all around the world. With many more expected to visit the cinema to see the last movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which opens around Britain this Friday, ELL asked the people of
south London: is it time for the Potter spell to end?
A part of me has gone forever
Rosie Brown, 18, student, Blackheath:
“I grew up with them, [but] the books are better than the films. For me its like the end of childhood, I feel old. I don’t think she [J.K.Rowling] should write another Harry Potter.”
Harry who?
Garry Kelly, 51, handyman , Essex:
“Haven’t watched any films, can’t be bothered. Got a 14-year-old son who’s watched a few. Rather wait for the box set like Lord of the Rings.”
Harry will you marry me?
Najmo Jimala, 14 , student, Deptford Green:
“I love Harry Potter, went to the Half-blood prince premiere, I’ve watched all the films, read all books. Going to miss it, I cried when Dobby died. I think she should write a book again. Its annoying when the important information is being missed out in the films. I want it to be Harry Potter.”
Books are better than films
Les Drain, 64, retired, Telegraph Hill:
“I’ve read the books. [I) won’t watch the new film because the first film was disappointing, like Lord of the Rings”
