Laugh, learn and party more as Pick of the Line returns! This week we bring you comedy, exhibitions, concerts and even an opportunity to finally start that rap career you always wanted!

Crosswires Festival

Now in its second year, Crosswires is a non-profit, community event, based in Lewisham. The festival aims to provide audiences from both the borough and across the capital with quality live music – a mix of homegrown talent and from further a field. The music on offer is eclectic and not defined by genre or style, but judged by its sheer quality, in the spirit of John Peel, one of the inspirations for the programming of the festival.

Cost: Tickets are just £5 earlybird and £7 after, and if you’re a student or unemployed, they’re £4! They will go up to £10 on the door, so make sure you get yours in advance.

Pre-Raphaelites art exhibition

Discover the paintings of Rossetti, Millais, Hunt and other artists inspired by the Pre-Rapaellite Brotherhood

​The exhibition is made up of nine 2 x 2.5m light boxes, displaying a wide selection of Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood images. Captions give a brief summary of the date and provenance of each painting and each panel has its own QR code, giving more detailed information painting-by-painting.

When: Every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 23 October

National Gilbert And Sullivan Opera Company: The Gondoliers

The ensemble performs Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera about two Venetian gondoliers who, brought up as brothers, learn that one of them is the heir to the throne of Barataria. They are delighted and agree to share the responsibilities until it can be ascertained which of them is which. Matters are complicated when they learn that the King was married as an infant. The problem? The two gondoliers are both newly married!

Rhydian live at Ashcroft Theatre

Welsh classical singer Rhydian has come a long way since he finished second on the X Factor in 2007.

While fellow contestants on the show have faded away – even winner Leon Jackson is a hazy memory for most – he’s gone on to be nominated for a Classical Brit and has two platinum albums, sold a million records worldwide and starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Drama, rap and music production workshops

Young people can take part in FREE rap and music production every Thursday evening as part of 'A' Team Arts House of Talent, and will have the opportunity to get involved in our new stage production -‘Rapture’ with your own composed raps and spoken word pieces, as well as taking part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

Chisenhale Open Weekend

Join Chisenhale Art Place (Chisenhale Dance Space, Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Studios) for three days of exciting free events as we open the doors of our iconic building to the public. Come and explore!

Chisenhale Dance Space events include a Friday evening performance by Into the Wild artists, and open rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday with groups such as PanicLab, Feet Off the Ground and the Sugar Dandies.

Comedy Knight's Fresh Comedian 2015 Grand Final

After a year of London-wide heats, quarters and semi finals, tonight is the Grand Finale of the Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of 2015.

Comedy Knights is a rapidly expanding series of one-off, weekly and monthly comedy events in gastropubs, private members clubs, live music venues and bars around London & the South. We have 9 years experience booking and promoting successful alternative comedy shows. Over the past year, Comedy Knights have given 140 new comedians the chance to be seen, and found twelve finalists with the potential to be paid acts with them in the future. Come watch them perform their best sets in the hope of being crowned Winner of Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of 2015.
